Tyler Ultra Basic - La Culotte Fendue
As I don't have any real model of slit panties (unless you want to go rummaging in some box in the cellar for a real pair of human-sized slit panties from the late nineteenth century, because only the thighs and knees are hidden), I had to improvise and make two canvases before I found a system that would allow me to make a clean piece of work.
As I sew everything by hand to respect the fact that the sewing machine, even if it had already been invented in 1840, was not, by far, in common use, it took me a long time. Exactly two weeks to make the fabric, the pattern and finally the knickers. All right, I think I should say the trousers, because it seems to me that women didn't wear knickers in the first half of the 19th century.
So here's the result of my work.
I'm now going to move on to the petticoat. It's still a lot of work because I'm planning two gathered ruffles in broderie anglaise. I'm reluctant to gather the whole width of the fabric at the waist. I'll probably do what I did for Cinderella's dress, using darts from the waist to the bottom hem. So there will be some volume below the bottom of the dress, but not too much around the waist.
And to avoid layers at the waist, I'm not making a shirt or corset.
